David coordinates the environmental, social and governance (ESG) and impact aspects of Althelia’s investments. Joining in June 2019 as maternity cover for Emma Lear, David is working closely with Antoine Rougier, Caroline Lockwood and Dr Jill Shankleman to ensure projects and portfolio investments are in compliance with Althelia’s ESG standard. In addition, David ensures that positive environmental, biodiversity and social impact is measured, monitored and reported, highlighting contribution towards international frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals.
Prior to joining, David played a key role in the planning and design of international conservation programmes at the Zoological Society of London, including the development of theories of change and impact indicators, alongside technical bid writing. David also spent several years overseeing Whitley Fund for Nature’s international grants and awards programmes and managing its global network of grantees. David has built relationships with conservation leaders, NGOs and donor organisations around the world and has a strong understanding of what drives successful, high-impact conservation projects.
David has an MSc in Conservation Science from Imperial College London and a BSc in Ecology and Environmental Science from the University of Essex. He also sits on the advisory council of the World Land Trust and is a member of the Conservation Coaches Network, specialising in the delivery of the Open Standards for the practice of conservation.
