Airlines have new rules to follow for managing and offsetting emissions, with requirements for them to be carbon neutral from 2020.
The International Airlines Transportation Association (IATA) and the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) partnered on a workshop series aimed at helping airlines navigate the new rules. These were based in sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, Europe, the U.S. and Asia to reach as many of the leading airlines around the world as possible.
Jessica Verhagen, our VP Business Development & Strategy, attended each of these and explained how to build an offset portfolio to meet airlines’ new obligations to fight climate change that also has co-benefits, such as providing new sources of revenue to communities and indigenous people in developing countries.
